Recently, Weichai has achieved remarkable success in the field of methanol-powered marine engines, further solidifying its position as a leader in clean energy technology. A series of methanol engines — including WP13, WH17, and WH20 — have received large-scale orders from customers. Weichai’s methanol engine range, covering 248–1200 kW, features high energy efficiency, significant reductions in NOx and CO₂ emissions, and is suitable for various types of vessels such as engineering ships, cargo ships, and liquid transport vessels.

Recently, the “Three Gorges Luzhou 01”, China’s first 3,000-ton phosphate ore carrier powered by a “methanol generator set + electric propulsion system” and equipped with a Weichai 6WH17 engine, was officially put into operation. The vessel achieves a 4,200-ton CO₂ reduction over its lifecycle, cuts fuel costs by more than 30%, and delivers high efficiency with environmental friendliness.

The Three Gorges Luzhou vessel measures 99 m in length, 16.3 m in width, and 4.8 m in depth, and features methanol corrosion-resistant components and specialized lubricating oil, ensuring durability comparable to that of diesel engines. Using methanol as fuel, the ship dramatically reduces NOx emissions, produces almost zero particulate matter and SOx, and saves over 30% in fuel costs compared to traditional diesel vessels. With Weichai’s self-developed methanol control system, high-energy spark ignition technology, and efficient combustion, the vessel achieves outstanding fuel economy and performance.

By leveraging advanced technology and a sustainable vision, Weichai continues to work hand in hand with its partners to lead the green transition — toward a cleaner, more efficient, and modern maritime industry!
