Wichai Power's project "A Diesel Engine Fuel Injection Control Method and an Electronically Controlled Diesel Engine Applying the Control Method" won the China Patent Gold Award, July 2023. It is the only government department award in China that specifically rewards inventions and creations that grant patent rights, and it is also the highest honor in the field of patents in China. The China Patent Award is jointly sponsored by the State Intellectual Property Office of China and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

This patent is the first to propose a diesel engine fuel injection control method, which is widely used in Weichai series electronically controlled diesel engines, which significantly improves the thermal efficiency of diesel engines. The thermal efficiency index of diesel engines using this patented technology is internationally leading, creating significant economic benefits, and is of great significance to achieving the "double carbon" goal, ensuring global energy security, and promoting the construction of ecological civilization.

Since the introduction of the diesel engine 125 years ago, the global industry scientific and technological workers always regarded the improvement of thermal efficiency as the lifelong pursuit of the dream. The R&D team of Weichai is constantly innovating and has achieved leaps and bounds in the thermal efficiency of diesel and natural gas engines.

In September 2020, Weichai released the world's first diesel engine with base engine's thermal efficiency of 50.23% and in January 2022, Weichai again increased the thermal efficiency of the diesel engine to 51.09%. None stop there, Weichai Group continuous launches the World's First Commercialized Diesel Engine with a Brake Thermal Efficiency of 52.28% and natural gas engine with 54.16% continuing to lead the global internal combustion engine industry.

Commercial application of Weichai's thermal efficiency technology can reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 12% (for diesel engines) and 25% or 30 million tons per year, respectively (for gas engines).
